From a management perspective, the financial sector has moved from being stable, conservative, closed and local to being disrupted by new entrants and internet giants with very different industry dynamics and risk profiles. Issues such as money laundering, financial fraud and corruption create challenges for business and society – and they need to be addressed. Developments within fintech, artificial intelligence and digitalisation are changing the game, whether you work for an established player in the financial sector or a start-up funded by a private equity fund.

The intention of this specialisation is to provide managers and specialists with a strong, skill-based, value-driven and ethical foundation for their careers in the financial sector by introducing governance, compliance, risk management and digitalisation into the core of the business.

The specialisation consists of three courses and can be completed separately or integrated as part of a full master degree in business development (MBD).

The specialisation is aimed at employees in the financial sector who want to optimise business processes and play an active role in developing their organisation – including contributing to cross-organisational initiatives and implementing local changes aligned with strategic objectives.

In addition, managers who have an interest in the field – but a background in another area (law, IT, engineering, etc.) – will benefit from the courses.

Individuals with legal, banking, IT and finance backgrounds working in the financial sector are ideal candidates for the specialisation.

The courses

The specialisation consists of a combination of three courses which aim to provide participants with insights and tools to address the most pressing challenges facing the sector.

Through the Corporate Governance and Risk Management courses, participants will gain tools to identify and measure internal and external risk, as well as insight into barriers to a good governance structure.

On Digitalization of Finance, participants will be introduced to how the latest IT technology has changed the commercial landscape of the industry.

This course "Corporate Governance, Sustainability and Ethics" will combine discussions of corporate governance concepts and empirical evidence with practical examples and business cases.
