In both the public and private sectors, skilled employees are often promoted to lead colleagues, teams and departments. But how do you navigate as a new manager in that transition? How do you step into a new hybrid role and find your own leader's identity? And how do you tackle redefined relationships and the development of management skills?
You may have already faced those challenges – or you may potentially face them. CBS Lifelong Learning focused on the transition from field expert to competent manager at a conference earlier this year. We invited a panel of researchers, coaches and current managers from CBS's postgraduate programs Master of Public Governance (MPG) and Master of Management Development (MMD), who themselves had experienced going from employee to manager. We talked about transitions, motivation, new positions of authority and sharing both theory and experience.
