The workplace as we know it is under scrutiny: The Great Resignation, calls for a four-day work week and quiet quitting all highlight the importance of employee well-being and a fair and just workplace. This is why inclusion and belonging at work matters.
Why so? Studies show that diverse and inclusive workplaces lead to higher revenues, innovation skills and more diverse recruitment (Great Place to Work). Feeling a sense of belonging at work, as enabled by inclusion, leads to a 56% increase in job performance, a 50% reduction in turnover risk, and a 75% decrease in employee sick days (BetterUp).
So, how do we make inclusion efforts authentic to not only our colleagues but ourselves and the workplace as a whole?

Dr. Poornima Luthra is the author of ‘Diversifying Diversity: Your guide to being an active ally of inclusion in the workplace’ and ‘The Art of Active Allyship’, the author of the HBR articles ‘Do your global teams see DEI as an American issue?’ and ‘7 ways to practice active allyship’.
Poornima has been recognised as one of the world’s 30 up-and-coming thinkers whose ideas will make an important impact on management thinking in the future by the prestigious Thinkers50. Poornima is also the recipient of the Professional Women of Colour Denmark 2021 Impact award, and a finalist in the Trailblazer category of the 2022 Nordic Blaze Inclusion Awards.
Poornima’s work in DEI focuses on expanding the dimensions of diversity we address with an emphasis on intersectionality, empowering individuals to be active allies of inclusion and enabling inclusive leadership.
Inclusion and Belonging Lead at Tiimo
Beaux Miebach (they/them) is queer, trans, and neurodivergent and works at Tiimo, a Danish neuroinclusion startup. Beaux is German American and grew up between Turkey and the United Arab Emirates before studying in the United States and ultimately moving to Denmark.
They have a background in business and hospitality but, after feeling disillusioned by the fine dining world, pivoted to exploring their other calling: equity work.
Beaux is passionate about intersectional justice and, as Tiimo’s Inclusion and Belonging Lead, spends their time connecting with, and advocating for neurodivergent folks.
